At Originals we source and craft our furniture to last for many years.
Our collections are carefully considered and sourced from suppliers with principles of quality and integrity. We have worked with many of our suppliers for over two decades, and in order to make the grade, they must share our values for quality craftsmanship and materials.
If you follow these simple guidelines throughout the life of your Originals furniture piece, you will have a product that ages gracefully and lasts for years.
Being a natural product, timber reacts in different ways depending on climate. If you are in a warm climate, be careful of heat sources like direct sunlight and humidity, as these factors may cause fading and structural movement. Our furniture is made using natural materials, which means that they are susceptible to natural changes in seasons and the elements.
— Wood with painted finish
Caring for your painted finish is a very easy process. Just wipe your piece down with a slightly damp (lintfree) cloth. If you spill water or other substances on the surface, we suggest you wipe it down quickly to prevent it penetrating the timber.
The use of cleaners, polishes, or abrasive materials, may damage the careful finish of the piece. If you wish to protect the piece further, we recommend waxing on a yearly basis. This will help ensure the piece will retain its verve and spirit. We suggest using clear bees wax, which is available at most hardware stores. To protect the surface from heat, always use a trivet or a coaster underneath hot plates, pans, or mugs.Using felt stoppers when you place decorative objects on the surface, will help to prevent scratches or marks.
— Wood with raw finish
For daily cleaning, wipe your piece down with a damp, lint-free cloth. Always make sure you follow the grain of the wood and wipe down the piece uniformly. For spills, we suggest mixing a solution of dishwashing soap and warm water, then wipe the entire surface using a non-abrasive sponge. Finally, wipe the piece down again with a damp cloth and leave it to air dry. Refrain from using cleaners, polishes, or abrasive materials, as they may damage the piece. To protect the surface from heat, always use a trivet or coaster under hot plates, pans, and mugs.Using felt stoppers when you place decorative objects on the surface, will help to prevent scratches or marks.
— Fabrics & upholstery
We have carefully chosen our linen sofas styles because they are simple, refined, and extremely comfortable. It is natural for the feather inserts to settle and mould into place over time, therefore, to help distribute the feathers more evenly, we suggest you rotate and shape the loose cushions. This process will help to ensure that they keep their shape and softness over time. You may also take out the cushion inserts and place them in the sun to air occasionally. All of our inserts are produced with tightly woven cotton fabric and constructed compartments that contain the feathers.
Sofas and upholstery are best cleaned using the appropriate attachment on your vacuum cleaner. We do not recommend using heavy detergents or spot cleaners, as they may discolour and/or damage the fabric. For spills on your sofa, simply blot away the liquid or stain immediately and then wipe the area carefully with cold water. While the covers may be dry cleaned, we recommend using a professional cleaning company, as they will give the sofa a uniform clean.
We suggest you vacuum your rug on a regular basis. Rugs made of natural materials such as jute or wool may naturally shed. Do not worry, as this will settle quickly. In the event of a spill on your rug, try to blot the excess immediately and only use products that are suitable for cleaning rugs. We recommend the use of a professional cleaning company, as they are able to ensure a more uniform clean. To help distribute the wear and tear on your rug, we suggest you rotate the rug from time to time.
The metals that are used in our furniture are selected for both their look and durability, however, dust and particles may abrade the surface over long periods of time. It is important to dust regularly and refrain from using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners on your metal surfaces, as they may damage the finish. Chrome or steel frames may rust if they are exposed to excessive humidity, therefore, we suggest you occasionally wipe them with a soft cloth and a suitable protective polish. Chrome and stainless steel polishes are readily available at most hardware stores.
— Vincent Sheppard Lloyd Loom
Our Vincent Sheppard collection is for indoor use only. For maintenance, we suggest you wipe down with a damp cloth every few weeks to remove dirt and dust. Each dining chair has nylon or felt gliders, which will protect the feet from rough and abrasive floor surfaces while at the same time protecting your floor surface from scratches.
