Collection Makonde Mortar Stool is empty
Back to homepageOur Makonde mortar stools were made by the Makonde natives of Tanzania, who are renowned as some of Africa's best carvers.
Each mortar has been tenderly repaired and rebuilt after being used in the community kitchen to pound grain and maize.
Each stool is individually hand-carved from local wood by a community member, giving it a one-of-a-kind appearance for your house. The wood of the mortars has wonderful wear and patina due to exposure to the environment and everyday use.
Our Makonde mortars are ideal for use as ornamental stools or practical side tables for any room in the house.
