Our Tonga mortar stools are unique vintage items selected from rural Zimbabwean villages. Each mortar has been lovingly restored and finished after being used for grinding grain and maize in the community kitchen.

Each stool is individually hand-carved from local wood by a community member, giving it a one-of-a-kind appearance for your house. The wood of the mortars has wonderful wear and patina due to exposure to the environment and everyday use.

Our Tonga mortars are ideal for use everywhere in the house as decorative sculptural stools or practical side tables.
