Care & Maintenance

At Originals we source and craft our furniture to last for many years. Over their lifetime our products will need a little care and attention to ensure they can be enjoyed by generations to come.

The following information will help you care for your furniture in the best possible way.

Caring for your painted finish piece is an easy process. Simply wipe your piece down with a slightly damp (lint-free) cloth. If you spill water or other substances on the surface, we suggest you wipe it down quickly to prevent it penetrating the timber. To protect the surface from heat, always use a trivet or a coaster underneath hot plates, pans, or mugs. Using felt stoppers when you place decorative objects on the surface, will help to prevent scratches or marks. The use of cleaners, polishes, or abrasive materials may damage the finish of the piece.

If after a couple of years, you feel your piece is looking a little dull, you may choose to wax your piece. We suggest using clear bees wax, which is available at most hardware stores. Timber is a natural product that will respond to its environmental conditions, we recommend you try to avoid sudden extreme variations in temperature. For oil and food stains use a solution of mild dishwashing liquid and water. Wipe stains with the soapy solution and follow with a clean damp cloth. Do not leave liquid to sit on timber surface as it will penetrate and may cause staining.

We have carefully chosen our sofa styles because they are refined and extremely comfortable. Regularly vacuum the fabric to remove dust, dirt, and any loose feather. In case spills or stains occur, quickly blot the stains immediately and wipe the area carefully with cold water.

We do not recommend using heavy detergents or spot cleaners as they may damage and / or discolour the fabric. To prolong the life of your upholstery, we recommend using a professional cleaning company. Avoid direct sunlight if possible as this may cause colour change and aging of your fabric.

Please refer to the Care Section on our website for care information specific to your fabric.

To keep your cushions looking full and fluffed, regularly rotate and shape your cushions. Overtime, your cushion filings will settle, and seat foam will soften. Some of our fabrics contain feathers in compartments, and occasionally feather quills can pierce through the covers. They can be removed by pulling the feather.
